Global markets: Canadian industrial prices rise

By Commodity News Service Canada

WINNIPEG, January 5 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.

– The Industrial Product Price Index (IPPI) rose 0.3 per cent in November. Higher prices for motorized and recreational vehicles and primary non-ferrous metal products were largely moderated by lower prices for energy and petroleum products. The Raw Materials Price Index (RMPI) decreased two per cent, mainly due to lower prices for crude energy products, Statistics Canada said in a report on Thursday.

– US jobless claims in the week ending December 31 were down 28,000 to a seasonally adjusted 235,000, according to reports out of the country on Thursday.

That level is near a 43-year-low, and marks the 96th consecutive week that claims have been below 300,000, a level which indicates a healthy labour force.
