Global Markets: Coronavirus evacuees arrive in Canada

WINNIPEG, Feb. 7 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– A chartered plane carrying 176 Canadians out of Wuhan, China arrived at CFB Trenton in Ontario Thursday evening. The passengers will be quarantined for two weeks as a precaution over the novel coronavirus.

– United States forces have reportedly killed the leader of the terrorist group al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), Qassim al-Rimi, in an operation in Yemen. Al-Rimi and his group have claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on a U.S. Naval base in Pensacola, Florida last year.

– The CEO of Switzerland’s Credit Suisse, Tidjane Thiam, has resigned his position in response to a spying scandal that has “disturbed” the bank over the past year. Credit Suisse’s ex-COO, Pierre-Olivier Bouée was implicated in two separate spying operations. Thiam has denied knowledge of the surveillance.
