Global Markets: Global protests against police brutality

WINNIPEG, June 3 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

Demonstrations around the world were held in solidarity with protestors in the United States marching against police brutality. There have been reports of marches in all 50 U.S. states, Canada, France, Australia, the Netherlands, Israel, and other countries.

Tropical Storm Cristobal made landfall in Mexico early Wednesday morning, and is on course towards Texas and the Florida panhandle. By the time it reaches the United States, it could reach hurricane strength with winds over 120 kilometres per hour. The storm is expected to bring over 75 centimetres of rain when it makes landfall in the U.S. on Sunday.

More than 100,000 people, including COVID-19 patients, were evacuated from Mumbai, India, due to a rare cyclonic storm that hit on Wednesday. Cyclone Nisarga brought heavy rains and winds to vulnerable neighbourhoods along India’s western coast.

According to a recent report from a private firm, 2.8 million Americans lost their jobs in May, which was significantly below expectations, which expected job losses to total 9.3 million. Currently, over 40 million Americans are out of work.
