Global Markets: U.S. Supreme Court nominee vote watched

WINNIPEG, Sep. 28 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– The United States Senate Judiciary Committee is set to vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh later Friday. The controversial candidate is facing sexual assault allegations. The vote comes a day after one of his accusers, Christine Blasey Ford, testified before the committee.

– The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has accused Tesla’s Elon Musk of fraud. Shares in the electric car company dropped sharply on Friday.

– Canada’s economy grew by 0.2 per cent in July, according to the latest Gross Domestic Product data from the Statistics Canada. The increase beat market expectations for a 0.1 per cent gain.
