Canadian Financial Close: Loonie down, TSX continues to rise
The Canadian dollar made a slight retreat on Thursday.
The loonie was at US$0.7252 or US$1=C$1.3789, compared to US$0.7262 or US$1=C$1.3771 on Wednesday. The United States Dollar Index was up 0.21 of a point at 103.80.
Crude oil made small gains after a drop in U.S. stockpiles and ongoing tensions in the Middle East. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) increased US$0.32 at US$70.71 per barrel. Brent crude oil gained US$0.28 at US$74.50/barrel.
The TSX/S&P Composite Index hit another all-time high at 24,704.44 on Thursday before settling at 24,690.48, rising 129.28 points from Wednesday.
Gold jumped US$15.90 at US$2,707.20 per ounce.
