Magna International recently launched an active air dam for 2019 Dodge Ram trucks at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The air dam automatically deploys to redirect air around the vehicle and assists with emissions and fuel-economy improvements.

The Ram’s active aero systems are driven by smart actuators and power systems developed in-house by Magna. The actuators directly communicate with the vehicle’s control systems and ensure the aero systems correctly deploy, based on vehicle speed, temperature and drive mode. The new system is said to achieve an estimated seven per cent drag reduction and one mile per gallon fuel savings on the highway.

Magna’s expertise in active aerodynamics has put more than 10 million active grille shutter systems on the road.
