Pulse Report: Bean harvests progressing well across Canada, U.S.

WINNIPEG, Sept. 20 (CNS Canada) – The United States Department of Agriculture light trading with moderate demand in its weekly bean, pea and lentil market news, for the week ending Sept. 19.
Progress reports dated from Sept. 17, show the dry, edible bean harvest is 97 per cent done in Montana, 81 per cent complete in Idaho, 71 per cent done in Washington, 44 per cent in North Dakota and Minnesota, 35 per cent in Nebraska, 28 per cent in Wyoming, 18 per cent done in Colorado and eight per cent in Michigan.

The latest Manitoba crop report issued Sept. 18, showed harvest of dry beans there was still ongoing with yields being reported s ranging from 1,800-2,000 pounds per acre for pinto beans, and more than 2,000 lb/acre for cranberry beans in the central region.
Pea harvest is complete in the province with yields ranging from 50 to 90 bu./acre.

A United Nations report on world food security and nutrition states hunger is increasing following a decade of steady declines with 815 million people affected in 2016. That marks an increase of 38 million people from the previous year, and largely caused by conflicts and climate-related events, said the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization.
