Canadian dollar and business outlook

Glacier FarmMedia | MarketsFarm — The Canadian dollar was holding near unchanged Wednesday morning.

At 8:49 a.m. CST the Canadian dollar was trading at US$0.6956 or US$1=C$1.4376 which compares with Tuesday’s close of US$0.6961 or US$1=C$1.4366.

Canada’s Industrial Product Price Index rose 0.2 per cent in December compared to the previous month, while the Raw Materials Price Index was up 1.3 per cent, reported Statistics Canada. The IPPI increased 4.1 per cent on the year and the RMPI was up 9.1 per cent on an annual basis.

Crude oil was softer, with West Texas Intermediate crude oil down by 0.15 per cent at US$75.72 per barrel.

The TSX was stronger, up 53.64 points at 8:49 CST to trade at 25,335.27.
