WINNIPEG, August 28 – The Canadian dollar weakened against its
US counterpart Friday morning as crude oil prices handed back
yesterday’s gains, and Statistics Canada released a report on natural
gas transportation and distribution.

At 8:30 a.m. CDT the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7524 or C$1.3291
which compares with Thursday’s North American close of US$0.7565,
or C$1.3218.

Canadian natural gas utilities received 11.2 billion cubic
metres of total marketable gas in June, up 4.3 per cent from the same
month in 2014, Statistics Canada said in a report on Friday.

According to StatsCan, gas utilities sold 4.9 billion cubic
metres of natural gas in June, up 0.2 per cent. However, revenues
decreased 24 per cent from 12 months earlier to C$913.2 million,
reflecting lower natural gas prices in Canada.

The TSX was stronger in early activity, up 17.14 points at 8:35
a.m. CDT to sit at 13,783.81.
