Canadian Financial Close: Fertilizer merger passes key step
By Commodity News Service Canada
WINNIPEG, November 3 – The Canadian dollar ticked lower
against its US counterpart Thursday. The market was a quiet one,
as many investors waited to see labour data due out Friday.
The Canadian dollar closed at C$0.7472 or US$1.3383,
compared to Wednesday’s close of C$0.7465 or US$1=C$1.3395.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index ended slightly lower Thursday,
tracking losses in crude oil and gold.
A merger between two large fertilizer producers was given
the green light by shareholders. On Thursday, more than 99
percent of Potash Corp investors and 98 percent of Agrium
shareholders agreed to bring the two companies together. The
deal still has to receive the approval of regulators.
The index fell 11.30 points, or 0.08%, to close at
14,583.42.
