Canadian Financial Close: Index buoyed by Blackberry

WINNIPEG, December 19 – The Canadian dollar ended lower
against its US counterpart as traders took profits on a light-
trading day.
Losses in silver, copper and natural gas contributed to the
downside.
The Canadian dollar closed at C$0.7453 or US$1.3417,
compared to Friday’s close of C$0.7494 or US$1=C$1.3344.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index finished higher on Monday, as
advances in the tech sector and health-care stocks led the way
forward.
Blackberry ended the day with a 2.3% gain after telling
investors it planned to pour money into a hub for driverless
cars in Ottawa.
The index rose 17.65 points or 0.1% to 15,269.85.
