Canadian Forex Midday: C$ close to unchanged
By Commodity News Service Canada
Winnipeg, January 2 – The Canadian dollar was close to unchanged
against its US counterpart at midday Thursday, as a lack of fresh major
economic news has the loonie in a narrow trading range, industry
watchers said.
Some weakness came from poor Canadian manufacturing data,
participants said. The RBC Canadian manufacturing purchasing managers’
index fell to 53.5 in December from 55.3 in November.
However, large gains seen by gold limited any further losses, as
did strong Eurozone manufacturing data. According to Markit, the
Eurozone purchasing managers’ index was up to 52.7 in December from
51.6 in November.
At 11:33 CST Thursday, the Canadian dollar was trading at
US$0.9400 or US$1.0638, which compares with Tuesday’s North American
close of US$0.9402, or US$=$1.0636.
At 11:33 CST Thursday, the Toronto Stock Exchange was down 91.88
points to sit at 13,529.67.
