Canadian Forex Midday: C$ flat
By Commodity News Service Canada
Winnipeg, August 30 – The Canadian dollar was flat against its US
counterpart at midday Friday, amid mixed Canadian economic data,
industry watchers said.
Strength was seen from a Statistics Canada report that showed the
gross domestic product (GDP) at an annualized rate expanded 1.7%, which
surpassed economists’ expectations, analysts said.
However, news that June’s GDP shrank by 0.5% limited those gains.
At 11:37 CDT Friday, the Canadian dollar was trading at US$0.9501
or US$1.0525, which compares with Thursday’s North American close of
US$0.9497, or US$=$1.0530.
Losses seen in commodities, including crude oil, copper and gold,
further limited gains.
At 11:37 CDT Friday, the Toronto Stock Exchange was up 21.25
points to sit at 12,725.98.
