Winnipeg, September 25 – The Canadian dollar was flat against its
US counterpart at midday Wednesday, reversing early session losses as
it struggles to find direction without the release of major Canadian
economic data, industry watchers said.
Gains seen in commodities, including copper, crude oil and gold,
were bullish for the loonie.
However, gains were limited by stronger-than-expected US economic
data, analysts said. According to the US Department of Commerce,
durable goods orders were up 0.1% in August, surpassing economists’
expectations of a 0.6% decline.
At 11:30 CDT Wednesday, the Canadian dollar was trading at
US$0.9709 or US$1.0299, which compares with Tuesday’s North American
close of US$0.9707, or US$=$1.0302.
At 11:30 CDT Wednesday, the Toronto Stock Exchange was up 17.70
points to sit at 12,866.59.
