Canadian Forex Midday: C$ lowers

Winnipeg, September 26 – The Canadian dollar was weaker against
its US counterpart at midday Thursday, undermined by favourable US
economic data, market watchers said.
According to the US Department of Labour, jobless claims decreased
by 5,000 to a seasonally adjusted 305,000 during the week ended
September 21. The decrease was significantly better than expectations,
as economists’ forecasted the seasonally adjusted number to increase to
325,000 during the week.
Gains in commodities, including crude oil and copper, limited the
loonie’s weakness.
At 11:24 CDT Thursday, the Canadian dollar was trading at
US$0.9685 or US$1.0325, which compares with Wednesday’s North American
close of US$0.9696, or US$=$1.0313.
Trading was subdued again on Thursday, as investors await a
decision from the US government regarding the country’s fiscal
situation, brokers said
At 11:24 CDT Thursday, the Toronto Stock Exchange was up 15.53
points to sit at 12,852.24.
