Canadian Forex Midday: C$ strengthens
By Commodity News Service Canada
Winnipeg, September 27 – The Canadian dollar was stronger against
its US counterpart at midday Friday, as the loonie remained in a narrow
trading range as investors wait for US Congress to decide if they will
fund the US government so it can continue operating when the new fiscal
year starts on October 1, market watchers said.
Gains seen in commodities, including gold and copper, were
bullish.
However, average Canadian economic data limited any further gains,
analysts said. According to Statistics Canada, earnings for non-farm
payroll employees in July were unchanged from June.
At 11:38 CDT Friday, the Canadian dollar was trading at US$0.9707
or US$1.0301, which compares with Thursday’s North American close of
US$0.9696, or US$=$1.0313.
At 11:38 CDT Friday, the Toronto Stock Exchange was up 7.05 points
to sit at 12,848.67.
