Winnipeg, January 16 – The Canadian dollar was stronger against
its US counterpart at midday Thursday, underpinned by favourable
technical signals, market watchers said.
According to analysts, the US dollar’s inability to break through
C$1.1000 in the previous session could mean its strength against the
loonie is slowing.
Gains seen in commodities, including crude oil and copper, added
to the bullish tone.
At 11:38 CST Thursday, the Canadian dollar was trading at
US$0.9152 or US$1.0926, which compares with Wednesday’s North American
close of US$0.9137, or US$=$1.0945.
At 11:38 CST Thursday, the Toronto Stock Exchange was up 9.67
points to sit at 13,782.25.
