Winnipeg, January 30 – The Canadian dollar was stronger against
its US counterpart at midday Thursday, underpinned by favourable
Canadian economic data, industry watchers said.
According to Statistics Canada, the average weekly earnings of a
non-farm payroll employee were up 0.9% in November to C$928. On a year-
over-year outlook, weekly earnings increased by 2.5%.
However, losses seen in commodities, including gold and copper,
limited the loonie’s upside.
At 11:30 CST Thursday, the Canadian dollar was trading at
US$0.8959 or US$1.1161, which compares with Wednesday’s North American
close of US$0.8946, or US$=$1.1178.
At 11:30 CST Thursday, the Toronto Stock Exchange was up 67.86
points to sit at 13,711.08.
