Christmas tree growers launch N.B. brand

A Christmas tree growers’ co-operative in New Brunswick has developed a new logo and signage to promote sales in the local market.

The Cooperative des producteurs d’arbres de Noel de Grand-Sault released its new brand, developed using cost-shared assistance from the provincial Agri-Food Market Development Program, at its field day Saturday.

“The New Brunswick Christmas tree industry will now have an official logo to represent it,” co-op president Maurice Castonguay said in a provincial release Monday.

In all, New Brunswick’s Christmas tree industry involves about 350 active growers who produce about 500,000 trees per year, of which over 85 per cent are shipped for export across the Americas, the province said.

Locally, however, “the creation of a road sign will help us promote the sale of natural Christmas trees in New Brunswick,” said Sophie-Michele Cyr, president of the Christmas Tree Association of New Brunswick, in the same release.

“The industry generates tens of millions of dollars in revenue. Partnering, as we have in this promotional effort, is very important to the industry as a whole.”
