Nestle gets public backing for Ont. expansion

Nestle Canada’s foodservice division has picked up a $1.5 million provincial grant toward a major expansion at Trenton in eastern Ontario.

Nestle Professional said it plans to add 30,000 square feet of manufacturing and storage space at its Trenton plant, where it makes foods and beverages for the restaurant, airline and institutional markets.

The expansion is expected to allow the company to boost the plant’s production capacity by up to 20 per cent, add new production lines and product offerings, and add another 28 jobs to the 300 already at the plant.

The expansion “will help ensure the long-term viability of this facility, and help to secure eastern Ontario’s position as a leader in the food processing industry,” local MPP Lou Rinaldi said in the province’s release Wednesday.

The province’s funding, flowing through its Rural Economics Development Program, “will support our plans to increase the capabilities of our Trenton factory,” Mike Kuntz, director of operations for Nestle Professional, said in the province’s release.
