U.S. livestock: Cattle continue climb, hogs slip back

Chicago Mercantile Exchange feeder cattle futures climbed on Wednesday ahead of the USDA’s Cattle on Feed report, slated for release Friday.

Most active May feeders settled at 287.500 cents a pound, up 2.250 cents. August feeder cattle closed at 291.900 cents, up 2.425 cents per pound.

Most active June live cattle gained 1.850 cents to close at 202.850 cents a pound. April live cattle settled at 206.825 cents a pound, up 1.450 cents.

Choice boxed beef ended the day at $329.61 per cwt, up $6.29, the USDA reported. Select boxed beef slid $0.55 to settle at $308.68 per cwt.

Most active April lean hogs settled at 85.575 cents a pound, down 2.025 cents. June lean hog contracts closed at 96.500 cents a pound, down 0.850 cents.

The USDA put pork carcass cutout value at $95.19 per cwt, down $0.45.
