U.S. livestock: Cattle rally, hogs slide

Chicago cattle futures regained a ground on Monday to maintain a fairly level trajectory after last week’s fall.

Most-active December live cattle futures closed at 232.200 cents a pound, up 2.525 cents. February contracts gained 2.725 cents to settle at 230.400 cents per pound.

Most-traded January feeder cattle settled at 336.525 cents a pound, up 4.625 cents. March feeders gained 5.400 cents to close at 332.525 cents per pound.

The USDA reported choice boxed beef at $379.25 per cwt, up $1.12 on Monday afternoon. Select beef was valued at $359.93 per cwt, up $1.28.

Hog futures continued their downward drift. Most-active December lean hog futures closed at 80.600 cents a pound, down 0.675 cents. February contracts lost 0.325 cents to settle at 82.200 cents a pound.

Pork carcass cutout value sat at $101.65 per cwt in the USDA’s afternoon report — a loss of 30 cents.
