Viterra launches own grassy weed killer

Grain company Viterra has added a Group 1 grassy weed killer for wheat growers to its new roster of company-branded crop protection products.

The product, which Viterra calls Foothills, contains the active ingredient clodinafop-propargyl, the same used by Syngenta Crop Protection in its Horizon products.

Foothills is registered for use in the Prairie provinces and grain-growing regions of B.C. for control of wild oats, green and yellow foxtail, barnyard grass, Persian darnel and volunteer oats and canaryseed in spring wheat and durum crops.

Foothills has more than 28 tank mix options for broad spectrum control in a single pass, the company said in a release Tuesday.

Viterra began selling its own company-branded herbicides in February with the release of WildCat, another Group 1 product for wheat, durum and barley growers.

Its other herbicides include Broadside, a Group 2 and 4 combo for broadleaf control in wheat, barley and oat crops, and Cypress, which includes the same active ingredient as Foothills, but combined with a Group 4 product, for use by wheat growers in the brown and dark brown soil zones.
